Planning your inauguration visit
We are expecting a big crowd at the Capitol on Monday, January 13th, for the inauguration celebration activities. All events are open to the public and no tickets are required so feel free to join us!
If you're planning to come, please plan to arrive early to give yourself plenty of time to find parking, expect to walk at least a few blocks and dress warm.

11:30 am Inauguration Ceremony on the south lawn
1:45 pm Promenade of the Clydesdales from the Capitol to the Governor's Mansion
2:00 pm Meet and Greet with Governor & Claudia Kehoe at the Governor's Mansion
7:00 pm Grand March & Inaugural Ball at the Capitol

Make note of the following details and take a look at the map below to know where public parking is located.
- The circle drive around the Capitol will be closed to through traffic until 5:00pm Monday.
- Several streets in the downtown area will be barricaded until 5:00pm Monday.
- The file below is a parking map, including public and handicapped parking availability.
- Street parking before 5:00pm is metered parking. After 5:00pm street parking is free.
- The Passport app can be used to pay for your parking meter.
inaugural ball
The following details may be helpful to those who haven't attended before.
- Attire is formal but your Sunday best is acceptable. There will be tuxedos & ball gowns, suits & a variety of dresses from floor length to cocktail to less formal.
- The Grand March starts at 7:00pm and will likely last until at least 9:00pm, possibly later. This is a procession down the grand staircase in the rotunda of all the newly elected executive office holders as well as the members of the legislature.
- The newly elected governor & his wife, Mike & Claudia Kehoe, will have the first dance as soon as the march is complete then the ball will commence.
- The building will be full with very very little seating. Plan to be on your feet the vast majority of the evening.
- Be sure to have dinner before you come.
- Most legislator offices will be open and receiving visitors. You might enjoy taking a stroll through the hallways and will probably discover some available appetizers & drinks.

- You'll enter the Capitol through the carriage entrance, which is the "tunnel" underneath the exterior steps on the south side of the building.
- Getting through security will be easier and faster if you only bring necessities with you and carry a small handbag.
- It will likely be crowded, so expect to wait in line - outside.
